For more details on the Primary curriculum, go to Castlebrae Primary Cluster.

By the end of S1, students should have completed Access 3 in either French or German.

S2/3/4 course:

As from the start of S2, pupils work on the Standard Grade curriculum, using Métro pour l’Ecosse for French or Logo 4 for German. These books are differenciated (green or red) according to the Standard Grade level the students are working on.
For the pupils not performing at Standard Grade level, another language is available at Access 3 level, using the first and second books in French, German or Spanish.
The more able pupils get the opportunity to start on a second language, in order to sit Standard Grade in both languages.

S5/6 course:

The S5/6 courses can be provided for different levels and different languages. The Modern Languages Department delivers French, German and Spanish at Standard Grade, Intermediate 2, Higher or Advanced Higher levels.
The beginners course is an accelerated Standard Grade curriculum.
In order to make the delivery of sometimes two different languages at three different levels in the same class, the Modern Languages Department has adopted the principle of weekly plans the pupils have to work on either independently or with teacher support.
